# subtoken_disabled (/docs/errors/subtoken-disabled)

The subnet exists but its token operations are not enabled yet.

A newly registered subnet starts inactive: staking, unstaking, and other alpha operations are rejected until the subnet owner activates it with `btcli sudo start`. there is nothing to fix on your side; wait for the subnet to become active (`btcli sudo check-start`).

The exact chain error names (from the extrinsic receipt) that classify to `subtoken_disabled`; the description says what triggered the failure and where to check. Each name has its own page:
